Why is litter a problem?
The average person generates 64 ounces of trash each day. Trash is piling up in communities across the country and soon, it may become a real problem. I’m sure you have seen trash thrown around your community. You should know that cleaning up trash is not as hard as it seems. All we needed were a couple of trash bags and gloves. When you clean up, it’s not just about cleaning up an area for a short time: you are creating a sustainable environment because you will inspire others to clean up as well. Since 80% of marine litter comes from land-based activities it is important to clean up around the waterfront. Marine animals often mistake this trash for food. Maybe, if everyone is inspired to clean up, we will reduce the amount of trash in our communities and the future will not be so bad.
